ACT Rowers in World Champion Under 23 crew

ACT rowers Luke Letcher and Caleb Antill were part of a winning World Champion Under 23 Quad Scull crew competing overnight at Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The two ACT scullers teamed up with Mosman rowers Tom Schramko and Robert Black, and trained in Perth under Antonio Maurogiovanni, prior to departing for Europe. The crew took the lead following their typical powerful start, showed great rhythm in the middle stages of the race, and then held off the fast finishing New Zealanders in the last 50 metres. A great race against a quality field, and a credit to Antonio’s coaching. Local coaches also contributed to the development of these rowers: Luke is coached by Lyall McCarthy, and Caleb by Renae Domaschenz and Andrew Randell.

Caleb and Luke are the ACT’s first World Rowing Under 23 Gold medalists since 2003. Their crew is Australia’s first gold medal winning Under 23 men’s crew since 2004.

Mention should also be made of ACT sculler Cara Grzeskowiak’s fifth place in the Women’s Under 23 Single Sculls Championship. This was a credible result, against a formidable field, and points to Cara’s continued progress. Cara was coached by Vicky Spencer.
