PRINCIPLES OF ALLOCATION

The Jun 1981 point score system has been used this season as the basis for the logic in the point score calculation. However it has many shortcomings both as reflecting current rowing developments and in use in the Regatta Management Database. In summary the logic used in the calculation and divergence from the Jun 1981 point score system is shown in the table below.

Jun 1981 Clause No

Jun 1981 Clause

Response
1. Points only to be awarded to crews judged to have finished 1, 2 or 3.

What happens when interstate crews finish ahead of ACT crews?

Interstate clubs are included in the results.

When two or more crews from the same club finish in any of these positions, points shall be awarded to the first of such crews. Crazy sentence! Ignored.
2. In all cases, the points will be given only in accordance with the final award of places in each event (race or division?) See 1 and directly above
3

Score, normal regatta:

4 for first,

2 for second and

1 for third.

Championship event points are:

12 for first,

6 for second and

3 for third respectively.

Incorporated.
5 Dead-heat - add scores together and divide by number of dead-heating crews. Complicated to include in the calculation procedure. Used 3 scores (ie two crews dead-heating for first get 4 points and 3rd crew gets 1). Note - only a few races produced dead-heats in season.
6 First dead-heat + status. As for 5 above
9 Composite crew point split. Each club making up crew gets the appropriate proportion of points (ie if two clubs, half the points each, if three clubs, one third of the points each). Composite crews have been determined from the Registration table.
10 Row over - gets second place points.

I have assumed that every race had three crews in 'good faith' at the end of the draw evening. If crews subsequently dropped out, then it is unfair to penalise crews that participate.

If all remaining crews are from the same club then the winner gets two and the runner up gets one point.

11-17   Did not really affect the programming but the issues raised must be addressed before the next point score regatta.
18 Point score events To be republished. Note problem of Junior = Mens/Womens competition as against Schoolgirl/Schoolboy = School competition.
Schools/Masters Champs Non championship events in this regatta attracted double points.

Calculated 20 Apr 2006.
