The Tuggeranong Festival Cup will be held on November 26. The regatta is a club based event, as such the Tug Festival Cup will be awarded to a club not an individual. Categories will be Mens, Womens, Mixed, Schoolboy & Schoolgirl.
The fastest crew from each category will be decided by heats & a final with category winning crews receiving medals for each rower and a pennant for their club. Each category winning crew will then be entered into the grand final where handicap starts will accommodate the different categories – first across the line wins the Inaugural Tuggeranong Festival Cup which will be presented immediately after the final is run – rowers will be on the stage in the Town Centre Park to claim the Cup.
Lake Tuggeranong Rowing Club will be providing boat transport to Lake Tug on Friday evening. To book boat transport contact Lyndon at lyndon07@bigpond.com.
This is a heads up regarding some refinements to training flows on the 1800 metre course, decided at an Rowing ACT meeting last night.
Over the next few weeks, the upgrade to our new seven lane course will be completed.
Lanes will be numbered from 1, the most westerly, to 7 the closest to Weston peninsula.
Crews and scullers are permitted to travel South (i.e. from Finish to Start) in lane 1 or to the West of lane 1 (lane 1 replaces the former transit “lane zero”, in the old course)
No crews are to train in either direction in lane 2, ever. Large buoys will eventually be placed in lane 2 to “reinforce” this rule.
So Lane 2 is an empty lane.
You will be allowed to travel North (from Start to Finish) in lanes 3-7.
Please observe these rules and exercise great care, especially until the buoying work is completed and remember that it may take some rowers a little while to get used to the new system. Therefore keep a good look out.
There will also be some refinements to the regatta traffic flow for this weekend and thereafter. Reverse flow will be in force at regattas but with an altered travel pattern and crossover zone very close to the finish line.
At regattas there will be a gate keeper who will guide finishing traffic, and also direct those crews crossing over to progress to the start.
Details will follow regarding regatta flow.
Rowing Australia is pleased to announce the seven clubs that have been chosen to conduct an initial ‘Adopt a School’ pilot program throughout Australia.
Following extensive negotiations with the Australian Sports Commission and the office of the Minister for Sport, RA was pleased to receive funding to conduct this ‘Adopt a School’ pilot program. The aim of the ‘Adopt a School’ program is to increase participation in rowing by engaging a wider range of schools and school athletes in a structured and well-resourced program that is safe and sustainable.
Following an application and review process, RA has made funding allocations for the Adopt a School program to seven clubs supporting a total of 11 school partnerships across six states.
The Adopt a School partnerships that will be conducted in the first year are detailed below:
QLD Mackay R.C.: Mackay North High School
NSW Central Tablelands R.C.: Denison College of Secondary Education Kelso,
& All Saints College Bathurst
ACT Lake Tuggeranong R.C.: Lake Tuggeranong College, Erindale College,
Trinity Christian School, & MacKillop College
VIC Nagambie R.C.: Euroa Secondary College
VIC Shepparton R.C.: Goulburn Valley Grammar School
SA Phoenix R.C.: Ocean View College
TAS North Esk R.C.: Queechy High School
The Adopt a School pilot programs will introduce a large number of new rowers into our sport, including providing opportunities to race in competitions, and will then provide a pathway for the athletes to continue into club rowing – the life blood of our sport.
RA would like to thank the Minister for Sport, the Hon Mark Arbib, and the Australian Sports Commission for supporting this wonderful initiative.

Rowing Australia and its State Associations have over the past few years identified the need for an improved national web-based rowing management system. Reviews have been carried out including extensive conciliation with users of the current management system. This has lead the Steering Committee to recommend trials of Regatta Central, the world’s largest rowing regatta registration, regatta management and club management system. Rowing Australia has established a dedicated page on their website. This page includes some background to the review process, answers to some ‘frequently asked questions’, a memo to clubs regarding the Regatta Central trials, and each of the Steering Committee update bulletins.
