Luke’s World Junior Championship Quarterfinals

At the world junior rowing championships in Plovdiv Bulgaria the Australian men’s junior Quad Scull crew which includes Radford’s Luke Letcher unfortunately had a difficult quarter final row on Thursday. Needing to come in the first three to reach the semi-finals to determine the A finalists, the Australians raced the two current world and European Champion crews from Romania and Italy along with a strong crews from the Netherlands and Norway. Initially Netherlands started well, although both Italy and Romania quickly showed their class by sharing the lead. Norway and Australia were desperately catching the fading Netherlands crew, but in fast tail wind conditions this proved challenging. Towards the finish Italy and Romania led home Norway to progress to the semi-finals that determine the A finalists. Australia will now contest for a berth in the C final. Congratulations to Luke and the rest of the crew, tough racing within a world class field but a great effort.
