ANU Rowers Strike Gold in Ballarat

The ANU team achieved a win in the first finals of the Australian University Rowing Championships, raced today on the 1956 Olympic Games rowing course in Ballarat.

ANU’s mixed four of Jacqui Williams, Emily Caudle, Riley Owen, David Wright and cox Renae Domaschenz powered away from a high calibre Sydney University crew in the last 200m of the final to notch up ANU’s first ever win in this boat class in intervarsity competition.

The win capped off a great day for the ANU team, which qualified for the A finals in 15 of the 16 Championships events. Two of the finals were raced today, with the remaining finals to be held on Friday.

The Rowing Championships are being held separately to the Australian University Games this year, as there is no full length rowing course available at the Gold Coast Games venue.

The ANU team is defending its crown as the champion men’s rowing university, won at the 2012 Australian University Games, and is looking to improve on its third place in the women’s rankings.
