CAUTION – EVENTS THIS WEEKEND – ACTAS Time Trial & CRC Corporate Regatta

SATURDAY 19th NOVEMBER – ACTAS TIME TRIAL

ACTAS will be conducting an NTC Time Trials this Saturday 18th of November. The small boat time trial will start from 6.45 AM and conclude at 7.45 AM. The big boat time trial will start from 9:45 AM and conclude by 10:30 AM.

For both time trials rowers will start at the AIS White Poles and progress to via the most direct route to Kingston Harbour.

All other rowers are requested to keep clear of those competing and coaches are asked to ensure they do not wash off those competing.

2016 ACT Coxswain Workshop – 3rd December

On the 3rd of December Rowing ACT will be hosting an Interactive Coxswain Workshop.

Conducted by Elite Coxswain and Coach – Renae Domaschenz

When: 12:30-2:00pm Saturday 3rd December
Where: CGGS Boat Shed, Yarralumla Bay

Passing of Kevin Mongan

Many in the Rowing Community were saddened to hear of the death of Kevin Mongan.  Kevin began a long association with rowing as a Secretary to the then ACT Rowing Association.  He was a Boat Race Official for many years . He was a long-term coach and Committee member of the Daramalan Rowing Club introducing countless teenagers to rowing.  Rowing ACT would like to pass on its commiserations to his wife Kaye, and his three children.   His son Ian is a member of the Black Mountain Rowing Club and is also a well-known and accomplished rower, maintaining a strong […]

Disher Cup Regatta – Saturday 22nd of October (08:00 – 09:30)

The Disher Cup Regatta will be held tomorrow between 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM. The course runs from Kingston Foreshore to Regatta Point.

Crews will be taking the shortest course possible. Rowers and coaches not involved in this regatta are asked that they show respect to competitors by keeping clear of the course for the event duration.

CGGS Selection Trials – 19th October / 21st October

CGGS will be conducting a selection time trial over the winter time trial course on Wednesday morning, 19 October, with first boat starting at 7:00am; there will be approximately 20 small boats in the trial. There will be a CGGS marshal/safety boat stationed around the 1800m start line, Weston Park pontoons and the ‘big bend’.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and ask for wash to be kept at a minimum for this short period.

POLICE CHECKS – MAKE SURE YOUR HAVE YOUR LICENSE WITH YOU

The water police carried out coach boat checks this morning in and around Yarralumla Bay. A number of coaches were found to not be carrying their licenses with them.

Reminder – Licenses: Powerboat drivers must carry their boat license with them at all times whilst operating the vessel.

Reminder – Safety Equipment: All powerboats must carry the prescribed minimum safety equipment (paddles, bailing bucket, anchor/rope/chain, torch, sufficient PFD’s and extinguisher. It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that the equipment is both present and in a serviceable condition.

Ex-AIS Sykes Honeycomb Carbon Single Scull in excellent condition for sale.

Boat Number 5246, Manufactured for the AIS in 2010 using Mould 30 to suit rower weight 95kgs. Comes with anodised alloy wing rigger, back arms, and New Wave size 15 shoes. Impeller fitted and GoPro mount installed. AIS stickers remain on the boat, but are removable if this is preferred.

Stretching Workshop – 28th October

You’re Invited …

Capital Lakes Rowing Club invite all ACT Rowers and their families to attend a Rowing Stretching Workshop conducted by accredited Posture and Flexibility Teachers, Karen Caldwell and Markus Zellner.

Stretching is traditionally an undervalued component of sports training. Understanding the principles of stretching means that a small amount of weekly stretching will improve your posture, allowing you to row more efficiently and lengthen your rowing career.   All money raised is being donated to Capital Lakes Rowing Club to assist with the construction of the new clubhouse at Grevillea Park.
