AIS Research needs experienced rowers

The Australian Institute of Sport Physiology Department is recruiting experienced rowers to assist with research into the effects of sodium bicarbonate supplementation on rowing performance. Sodium bicarbonate has been shown to improve athletic performance in several sports. You would be eligible if your 2km ergometer Personal Best time is better than or equal to 7:50 for females and 6:50 for males. CGGS Regatta & Algae Update

ACTRA has received official advice from the National Capital Authority that allows tomorrow’s regatta will go ahead as planned. ACTRA will put in place the risk management arrangements used last weekend in case anyone has dangerous contact with algae. Anyone intending to compete or attend the regatta should be aware of continuing NCA warnings about algae in LBG. Note that East Basin and Central Basin remain closed.

CGGS Regatta – Draw and Programme published

Thedrawand programme are now available for this Saturday’s regatta. The regatta taking place is subject to confirmation on the morning of Friday 20 February when the results of the latest algae test by NCA should be known. If algae levels are not in the danger zone the regatta will proceed. This uncertainty may affect Gippsland Grammar’slogistics of travel to Canberra. Competitors should note that there are two vision impaired entrants to this regatta in lanes 3 & 6 of race 41 WGD 1x and lane 6 of race 59 WGD 2x. […]

ACTRA Sprint Regatta – 28 February – Call for Entries

The ACTRA Sprint Regatta returns to the programme this year and will be run on 28 February using the standard event list, but all races over 500 meters. Entries close this coming weekend at ACTRA – but see your club for details. Algae Update The NCA had LBG water tested yesterday and the algae count had dropped. However, NCA position on use of LBG stands until the results of samples taken on Wednesday are considered.

Lake Burley Griffin Algae Situation

The National Capital Authority’s closure of LBG on 12 February still stands. As an NCA official is quoted “Warning signs are posted around the lake and users and the public are advised not to come into contact with the water until further notice. All algal blooms should be treated with extreme caution”. The NCA will be testing the water again today and Wednesday, with the results announced the following day. As for the ISRA Regatta last weekend, ACTRA will be making an announcement whether this Saturday’s regatta can go ahead based on these tests and appropriate risk minimisation arrangements. […]

ISRA Regatta – Results

The full results for this weekend’s ISRA Regatta can be found here. The regatta started each day with a temperature of about 13C, with a maximum of 19C yesterday and 21C today. The wind was fresh from the SE getting up to about 20km/h each day with gusts to about 40km/h today.
