The World Junior championships started today in Austria with the ACT’s main interest being Nick Barnier in the JM2x with Sasha Belonogoff. They won their heat in the fastest time of the 6 heats, more than 10 secs in front of second. Their next race is the quarter finals – at 19:48 Thursday AEST. The “Live Race Viewer” can be seen here. An ex-ACT rower, Fergus Pragnall is in the M2+ boat and he also won his heat.

As part of the 2008 Youth Cup Regatta Program, Rowing Queensland will run the U/19 RQ Development Regatta also at Lake Kawana from 6-7 September 2008. Entries will be through ROMS. Entries are due next weekend for the thirdWinter Time Trialof 2008. You need to see your club for details of how and when entries close. This one is bound to have perfect weather. Wanted: a National Education Officer Rowing Australia is currently seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the newly created position of National Education Officer. You will find an advertisement and full job description here. Applications can be forwarded to Rowing Australia by email or post with applications closing at 5:00pm AEST on Friday the 4th of July 2008.


Sonia Mills from Canberra Rowing Club has qualified the W2x boat for the Olympics, sculling with Catriona Sens at the final qualification regatta in Poland yesterday. Two other Australian boats were also qualified for the Olympics and so allowing Australia to compete in all rowing events for the first time. Sonia joins fellow ACT athlete Sarah Cook who is competing in the W2- with Kim Crow at the Olympics. Winter Time Trial #2 – Official Results The official results have now been issued: Saturday; Sunday.


The provisional results of today’s time trial are here. It was shortened to approximately 3km due to strong southerly wind (10C, 68%RH, S 24-33km/h). Olympic Qualifying Regatta This regatta starts today in Poznan, Poland and Australia is attempting to qualify the M4-, W2x and W1x for the Olympics. The ACT’s interest in this is that our Sonia Mills is in the W2x with Catriona Sens. All three boats are a very good bet for qualification given recent results. Details at the World Rowing website.
