Rowing ACT is raising funds, through a blind auction, in support of the 2014 Junior and U23 Rowing Representatives from the ACT. The auction is for two return Singapore Airline tickets to Europe.

Late entries will be accepted up until 12:00pm tomorrow afternoon. Late entries will only be accepted if there is a lane available in the desired race and will incur double the race entry fee.

It is important that all clubs are safety aware and risk averse, and have a safety officer responsible for monitoring club equipment and protocols.
It is important that each club’s safety officer conduct a safety audit now that the season is commencing, particularly checking that all boats have bow balls and all rowing shoes have heel restraints that allow “hands-free” release of feet. All fitted shoes must be attached with less than 7cm of play between heel and the footplate and all quick release mechanisms must be in working order.
It is also timely to remind coaches about washes on the lake. For the enjoyment of other rowers and users on the lake, we ask that coaches attempt to minimise washing off other crews. Coaches should consider sharing a tinny if they have similar standard crews doing similar training.
Coaches should attempt to cut their wash to minimal when approaching other crews, particularly on Yarramundi Reach when travelling towards the Governor-General’s residence.

A rowers breakfast and coffee van will be available from 8:30 at CRC. Breakfast will cost $5.00.

The annual Boat Race Official Information Seminar will be held this Sunday the 26th of October from 11:00am – 01:00pm at the Canberra Girls Grammar Aquatic Center.
This seminar will be given by Head BRO Geoff Northam and will provide essential training on BRO duties, etiquette and responsibilities ahead of the 2014 – 15 season.
If you are interested in becoming one of our highly valued BROs, please join us for the seminar.
Existing BROs are also recommended to attend the seminar to help teach new BROs and to plan for the coming season.

Course – Participating athletes will be trialing from the white poles (finish of the Winter TT Course) to Kingston Harbor between 7:00am and 7:45am.
Saturday Time Trial #1 – ACT Crews in Big Boats:

Course – Participating athletes will be trialing from the white poles (finish of the Winter TT Course) to Kingston Harbor between 9:00am and 9:45am.
Capital Lakes Rowing Club, located at the Kingston Foreshore development at the east end of Lake Burley Griffin, runs a rowing program for people with physical or intellectual impairments. The program allows people with a wide range of ages and impairments to enjoy recreational or competitive rowing in a supportive club environment. CLRC has been working closely with both Rowing ACT and Rowing Australia to help build para-rowing participation in Australia.
Newcomers are first invited to attend a ‘Come-and-Try Day’ to find out what is in involved in para-rowing and what CLRC has to offer. They may then take part in a Learn-to-Row course of one session per week for 5 or 6 weeks. Participants are assigned a personal coach and mentor. Para-rowers are normally accompanied by a coach in a tinny, but all para-rowers must be competent to manage a boat capsize in deep water.
Those who wish to continue then join the Club in either the special para-rower category – entitling them to attend Sunday morning para-rowing sessions and additional sessions as arranged with their personal coach, or as regular Club members. Emphasis is placed on enjoyment and safety.
Parents/guardians and carers are invited to assist practically with para-rowing. They may also wish to become rowers and undertake the Learn-to-Row course and/or get a tinny license so as to assist with coaching.

Help Needed
The coaching is provided by Club members and brings with it a great sense of achievement. If you have coaching experience, or are licensed to drive a tinnie, or if you feel you can assist in other ways, Capital Lakes would greatly appreciate your help.
After qualifying for 12 out of a possible 16 A finals at the Australian University Games in Sydney, ANU’s rowers went on to win 6 medals, including 2 gold.
The athletes enjoyed ideal racing conditions on the final day at Penrith Lakes to notch up their tally of 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
The gold medals were in the mixed four (Dave Wright, Luke Letcher, Cara Grzeskowiak, Maddy Farrar and Gen Kinoshita) and the women’s double (Maddy Farrar and Cara Grzeskowiak). The silver medals were in the men’s single (Luke Letcher) and women’s single (Cara Grzeskowiak).The bronze medals were in the women’s lightweight quad scull (Georgina Ims, Sabina Bertuzzi, Siobhan Tobin and Anna Peterson) and the men’s lightweight four (Nathan Ryan, Stephen Morris, Mark Dawkins and Will Stoltz).
The result placed ANU third of the nineteen participating universities in the overall regatta point score, behind Sydney and Melbourne.
The result was a tribute to the ANU Boat Club coaches who have worked all through the Canberra winter to prepare the team, including Richard Furmage, Avril Baker, Michael White, Katrina MacKenzie, Renae Domaschenz and Nick Hunter. Thanks also to the pre-event logistics planning of Katie Tagg and other members of the club committee.
The result was also a product of invaluable equipment and funding support from ANU Sport, and of funding from the Australian National University through a Student Services and Amenities Fee grant.
The 33 athlete team was the largest intervarsity rowing team that ANU has sent away in the 50 years of rowing at ANU.
