The fourth of the Rowing ACT 2013 Winter Time Trials will be held on the 24th and 25th August 2013. The format of the event is singles and pairs on the Saturday, doubles, quads, fours and eights on Sunday. Please note that doubles will now longer be allowed to compete in Saturdays Time Trial.
Winter Time Trial Seat Fees remain at $6.60 inc GST.
The course is 3km long and runs from near the Governor Generals wharf, around a turning boat near the 1800m start, down Yarramundi Reach, around Kurrajong Point and up Tarcoola Reach finishing at the first of the white timber piles, opposite the AIS in Lotus Bay.
The series winner for each category of boat is determined by a point score based on handicap times. Crews/scullers receive one point for each race they complete, plus one point for each opponent in that race that they beat on handicap time. Crews can accumulate series points provided they do not change more than 25% of their crew from one time trial to the next.
Entries should be via your club and sent by email to James Hammond. Entries close at 10pm on the Friday preceding the time trial (August 16). Larger clubs may collate entries into the template spread sheet below.

The NRCE is seeking applications for the position of ACTAS Head Coach / ACT High Performance Development Coordinator.
The ACTAS Head Coach / ACT High Performance Development Coordinator will:
* Under the direction of the ACTAS JMC comprising of the NRCE, the ACT Academy of Sport (ACTAS) and Rowing ACT (RACT) lead and implement strategies within the ACT that contribute to sustainable success for Australian rowing at successive Olympic and Paralympic Games – in line with Australia’s Winning Edge (AWE) performance targets and outcomes. A key part of this is to lead and manage the NRCE’s high performance strategy within the ACT to achieve its vision and objectives, including:
# Develop and successfully implement strategies to ensure the delivery of the ACT’s component of RA’s national high performance plan through effective leadership, coaching direction, coordination and communication.
# Leading, managing and coaching an effective scholarship program through ACTAS.
# Identify, recruit, and actively ‘case-manage’ the effective development of talented athletes within the ACT, who are potential Senior A medal standard athletes for future World Championships, Paralympic and Olympic Games.
# Ensure clearly defined development pathways exist for the transfer of talented school athletes into the HP athlete pathway offered by the National Rowing Network.
# Ensure quality HP Development coaching and support systems exist in the ACT, and are delivered in line with the NRCE and High Performance Development Program (HPDP) guidelines.
* Under the direction of the NRCE Deputy Performance Director and Elite Development Manager, manage and organise activities for emerging athletes based in the USA, including enhancing selection processes, providing opportunities for selection within Under 23 boat classes and providing regular and effective communications with these athletes.

Last night at 5:21pm AEST Angus Moore of Canberra Rowing Club commenced his campaign at the World under 23 Championships held in Linz Austria. Moore lined up for a start in the Men’s Pair with partner Alex Hill of Adelaide Rowing Club.
Competing against 17 other nations Moore and Hill drew heat two against challengers from Ireland, Russia, Venezuela, Estonia and the USA. Moore and Hill performed well under the guidance of coach Tim Conrad to cross the line comfortably ahead of Ireland followed by Russia by a margin of more than 11 seconds. They secured their place in the semi-finals as the fastest heat qualifier in a time of 6 minutes 37 seconds ahead of heat 3 winners South Africa (6:38.30) and heat 1 winners Serbia (6:42.49).

INSTRUCTIONS TO COMPETITORS
• Withdraws are to be emailed to actra@rowingact.org.au the night before each time trial.
• It is the responsibility of crews to ensure they are at the start on time (any crew who misses their allocated start time may be started at the end of the field). Crews should pay particular attention to the start time rather than boat number as some numbers may be missing.
• Clubs should ensure that scullers and crews have the skill and experience to complete the course under adverse weather conditions.
• Crews and scullers should take note of normal traffic rules on the way to the start.
• Slower crews should ensure that crews overtaking have space to pass on the most direct course.
• If you capsize during racing stay with your boat until a safety marshal arrives. Remember that your boat will float even when it is full of water.
BOW NUMBERS
Bow numbers will be available for collection from Black Mountain Rowing Club from 8am on Saturday.
OFFICIALS
Officials are required to meet at the Black Mountain Rowing Club at 8:45am on the morning of each trial for a briefing. Wherever possible bring a tinny and a megaphone.
Regrettably due to insufficient ticket sales the Presentation dinner to be held this coming Saturday has been postponed. We will now plan to hold the dinner or similar event later in the year which will likely coincide with the end of the current Winter Time Trial series.
Thank you to those who have purchased tickets for the event and please be assured we will be refunding any payments already submitted.
Despite this setback we remain committed to an annual event dedicated to recognising season successes.

The deadline for purchasing tickets for this year’s dinner has been extended. Tickets may be purchased up until midnight Monday 15 July. Dou to booking commitments with the venue this will be the latest tickets can be purchased.
The 2013 Rowing ACT Presentation Dinner will be held on Saturday 20 July at the Yowani Country Club, Lyneham. This dinner recognises various successes throughout the season, and features interviews with four of the 2013 ACT Australian Representatives, Bonnie Andrews (Jnr W4x), Brittany Staniforth (Jnr W4-), Sarah Davis (Jnr W4x) and Stephaney Miniter (Jnr W4-).
We will also be awarding the annual premiership pennants for the overall point score winner and the men’s and women’s point score winners. There will be silent auctions throughout the evening, proceeds from which will assist with our representatives’ seat fee contributions, trivia and more!
Proceeds from the ticket sales will be reinvested into the trophy stock to repair and replenish those in need of repair or those missing altogether.
