This page has been established as a guide for those who have either never rowed or who have recently relocated to Canberra and wish to join a rowing program within the ACT. Learn to row programs are designed to teach those who have never rowed the basic skills involved with rowing. After completion participants may choose to take up sport further by becoming a member of an affiliated club and registering as a competitor Rowing ACT.

Participants are encouraged to contact clubs directly for information on learn to row programs and membership.

This list is open to any rowing program offered in the ACT on application. Rowing ACT reserves the right to accept or reject entries without giving reasons. Rowing ACT does not charge a fee to list these services here and does not accept a fee for contacts made. Rowing ACT makes no guarantees as to the suitability of programs listed here and it has no liability for services that may or may not be provided. Furthermore Rowing ACT as a representative of each club and school within the ACT will not make any recommendations favouring any club or school.


  • ANU Boat Club

    ANU Boat Shed on Sullivans Creek, ANU Campus

    Venue: ANU Boat Shed on Sullivans Creek, ANU Campus
    Time of Session: 1.5 hours
    Number of Sessions per Program: 8 sessions, each 1.5 hours
    Cost of Program: $230 for ANU Students and ANU Sport Student Members, $250 for all other ANU Sport Members. Participants must be a member of ANU Sport – ANU Sport membership is an additional $130

  • The Red Shed

    Black Mountain Peninsula

    Host Facility: The Red Shed, a new non-competitive Rowing Facility. The Red Shed is affiliated with Black Mountain Rowing Club, and BMRC will not being running individual LTR Programs.

    Time of Session: 1.5-3hour sessions

    Number of Sessions per Program: 5 sessions, each 3 hour (during school holidays), 10 sessions, each 1.5 hours (during term time).

    These courses will commence with school programs and evolve into a rich offering for adults, people with disabilities and other community groups. Coaching for experienced rowers is also available. The programs will all be run by qualified coaches out of a brand-new state-of-the-art rowing and wellness facility on Black Mountain Peninsula and will bring exciting new opportunities to our community. Riggers

Riggers is a Rowing Australia program designed to introduce school students to the sport of Rowing by learning to row on ergometers. It has so far been delivered at 3 ACT schools, with positive feedback from students and teachers.
