Luke Letcher – World Under 23 Championships

Luke Letcher progresses though first round of world under 23 Championships.

 The Black Mountain Rowing Club single sculler Luke Letcher has progressed through the first round of racing as an Australian representative in the under 23 World Rowing Championships at Varese, Italy overnight. The 20 year old faced a big field of 29 other competitors, who are the best from their respective nations.

 Luke rowed a controlled race to get third place in his heat behind the Serbian and Belarus scullers. The first four scullers from each of the five heats  progress though to quarter finals on Friday morning (Italian time). Other heat winners were from Poland, Czechoslovakia, Lithuania, and Greece. 

The European scullers Natan Wegrzycki-Szymczk (Poland), Boris Yotez (Azerbaijan) and Michal Plocek of the Czech Republic are regarded as favourites for the event.

 Luke will be competing in quarter finals against these impressive Europeans to progress through to semi finals on Saturday. 

The A and B Finals for this event will be held on Sunday.
