ACTAS will be holding a Time Trial tomorrow morning (Wednesday 20th) and Friday morning (22nd) beginning at 7am. Boats will be traveling from Black Mountain Peninsula to Kingston Boat Harbour. Please be cautious when rowing in the area as crews trialing will be traveling on the wrong side between Black Mountain Peninsula and Commonwealth Ave Bridge between 7am and 7.10am. Regatta Workshop 03 July ACTRA will be holding a regatta workshop for representatives from each of the affiliated clubs. If you have ideas or comments to make about our regattas, such as timing, duration, events, order etc, you should pass those on to your club’s representative as soon as possible so they can be presented as something workable.


The first 2007 ACT Winter Time Trials are this coming weekend. Start time is 09:30am each day, with singles and pairs on Saturday, and all other boats on Sunday. General information can be found here. ACTAS Rowing Scholarship Selection Criteria – Available shortly, but…. The 2008 ACTAS Scholarship Criteria is expected to be circulated shortly pending approval by theJoint Management Committee. It is intended that the ACTRA Winter Time trials will be used as part of the selection process, along with regular 6000m & 2000m in the week following each trial. Given the likelihood of the criteria being released next week, the first events will be the 2nd ACTRA Winter Time Trial on the 21/22nd July and Erg testing on the Monday and Thursday following that (the first time trial this weekend and any ergs in the following week, while encouraged, will not be included). In regards to erg testing, these will be done on Concept 2 Model D machines. Anyone who requires access to the Model D’s for training purposes, either as a group or individually, can contact Gordon Marcks to arrange access to the ACTAS machines (there are 6 at the ACTAS shed). Sarah Cook and Kim Crow won the W2- final at the first Rowing World Cup event at Linz, Austria on 3 June. A report of the win can be found in the news archive on the Rowing Australia web site, and a bit on the FISA web site. Sarah also placed 5th in the W8+ final on the same day. Youth Cup ACT Team Selection Documentation Released The selection documentation for the Youth Cup team has been released in 3 parts: Selector (3) requirements (nominations due this coming Friday, 15 June); a Coach (nomination closing date is also this coming Friday, 15 June); and for the team themselves (nomination closing date 22 June). Rowing Australia Newsletter – May Edition This edition of the newsletter was released on 3 June and can be seen here. They must have held it back so they could include a nice photo of Sarah in the W2-. Australian Masters Rowing Championships – ACT does well again The AMRC was held at Sydney Regatta Centre (Penrith) on 1-3 June. Exactly 100 ACT masters rowers entered the regatta (9% of the total rowers) from the Black Mountain and Canberra Rowing clubs. They entered 162 boats, totalling 539 seats (about 10% of the total seats at the regatta). There were many wins and great performance, as well as a lot of fun. The ACT crews in the interstate competition achieved: W4x 2nd; M8+ 3rd; W8+ 3rd; M4x 6th. A general regatta report can be found here, and results, photos and information here. Seminar – Nutrition for Top Performance – Thursday, 14 June This seminar is on this coming Thursday by Glenn Cardwell, at the National Press Club, Barton. It is being organised by Nutrition Australia and more information can be found here. Sport Leadership Grants for Women – 2007-8 The Australian Government is offering to grant funds for developing women at a club level to develop skills in a range of areas. Applications close on Friday, 29 June and more information can be found here.


All the documentation is now available for the Australian Masters Rowing Championships that are being held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre on 1-3 June. The information can be seen here.


As part of their national junior team preparation, there will be time trials on Friday and Saturday morning over the 5200m NTC Time Trial Course from Black Mtn Peninsula to the entrance of Kingston Boat Harbour. Boats will be travelling against the accepted traffic pattern between Black Mtn Peninsula and Commonwealth Avenue Bridge from 7am. It is expected that they will have cleared this area by 7.15am. The ACT based AUS Junior Rowing Team are having a movie afternoon (Pirates of the Caribbean) to help raise money for their trip to the Junior World Championships in August. The details for the event are here. Its on Sunday 27 May at 2:30pm at Greater Union Civic. Hope to see you at the movies. During April ACT Rowers went to Penrith for the Australian Selection Regatta. At the end of this regatta 4 ACT junior rowers and 2 coaches were named in the team. Nick Barnier and Zac Cleaver have been joined by Angus Morton and David Wright to make up the Junior Mens Quad coached by Regan Sanders while Veronica Tamsitt and Christabelle Northam have been named in the Junior Womens Pair coached by Gordon Marcks. These athletes will be competing at the Junior World Championships in Beijing during August 2007. Junior representatives must largely self fund their trip to the championships and are seeking support from several sources. There has been some generous support already, but our representatives’ major fundaraising event is a dinner and auction. A flyer with the details for this event is here. If you can’t come to the dinner, some direct support would be appreciated. Thank you for your support and we hope to see you at the dinner.


ACTSPORT is seeking somone to fill a permanent Part Time position (20 hrs per week). The person will work at ACT Sports House within the office environment and will be responsible for general communication with members and tenants, our ClubsACT Sportstar of the Year Awards, the ACTSPORT website and other exciting programs. (Web experience is not necessary, training will be provided). Steve Fairfax, a long time Black Mountain Rowing Club member, recently passed away. In memory of Steve, the Club is holding a farewell for him to be held on Sunday, 20 May at the BMRC boatshed commencing at 9.30am. You are invited to attend and to say your own goodbye to Steve. Morning tea will be provided.


Rowing Victoria is interested in hearing from any club, school or institute who knows the whereabouts of a set of test weights lost at the 2007 Australian Rowing Championships at Nagambie in March. The test scales are black, boxed shaped with a carry handle and about 30cm x 20cm x 20cm and there are three of them. It is important they are located. If returned, no questions will be asked!
